Long Term Care

Long Term Care insurance pays for home health care, nursing home care, assisted living and adult daycare, which is not covered by medical insurance or Medicare on a long-term basis. Long Term Care policies pay for custodial care for people that need help with activities of daily living like bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, mobility and continence or have cognitive impairment. According to my research and experience, Long Term Care can cost between $65,000 - $85,000 per year for a nursing home in Eastern Massachusetts. A four-year nursing home stay can cost $300,000+ in today's dollars; home care is usually between $20,000 - $40,000 per year; and assisted living is between $35,000 - $55,000 per year. In 1996 the Federal Government endorsed Long Term Care insurance with the Kassenbaum/Kennedy Law that created "tax qualified" policies. Tax qualified policies allow you to receive benefits "tax-free" when you collect. Under certain circumstances the policies may either be tax-deductible on your income tax or, if you own a business, by your business. Under the direction of Thomas W.
